Intermediate/Senior Accountant

WMC Accounting has a growing client base of small to medium businesses in Geelong and extended regions including Colac, the Bellarine Peninsula and Melbourne. We provide our business clients with specialised advice and assist them with ATO compliance requirements, bookkeeping, accounting, taxation, business management solutions and strategic planning. Additionally, we have a large client base of individual tax returns; with tax season peak periods between July to October. Key selection criteria:

  • Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Accounting) and working towards your CPA/CA qualification
  • 2-3 years accounting experience in public practice
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Personable and ability to build strong relationships with clients
  • Provide assistance to clients with general enquiries and cloud accounting support
  • Problem solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of GST and EOY compliance
  • Applying technical knowledge to job specific attributes   
  • Exposure to tax planning 

As well as being competent in client based accounting packages (Intuit QuickBooks, Xero, MYOB and Reckon), you will enjoy utilising and/or exploring modern tools to contribute to firm-wide efficiency processes. Experience with software programs including Xero, Handisoft, HowNow and SimpleFund will be highly regarded.  

You will collaborate and work closely with one of our Directors in delivering outcomes for small-to-medium businesses. You will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements, income tax returns, GST returns and SMSF accounts. You will have a proactive approach towards workflow progression and ensure client jobs are completed in a timely manner. You will also assist in helping clients with managing their accounting systems, tax planning and business improvement. 

This role will involve direct involvement with clients, whether it be by telephone, email or face-to-face meetings to discuss needs, outcomes and advice. For those who demonstrate leadership qualities, there will be opportunities to lead change and build on existing accounting and advisory tools.

Supervisory experience is a plus but not a requirement to apply. As this role is a growing role, there is scope to develop management and supervisory skills to train and mentor graduate staff.
